SAFERsleep Recovery
The patient’s record, from theatre to the recovery unit
SAFERsleep Recovery
SAFERsleep Recovery carries the anaesthetic record out of theatre and into the post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU), replacing the paper recovery report with a tablet at the bedside.
When the theatre team transfers a patient in SAFERsleep OR, the episode appears on the recovery bay’s list. The PACU nurse confirms the patient’s identity and carries on the same record. Allergies, drugs, fluids, blocks and prescriptions from theatre are all there to see, and a clear line shows where theatre ends and recovery begins.
Observations, drugs given, PACU scores and discharge checks are recorded as care happens, ready for handover to the ward or for the patient to go home.
One record from theatre to discharge
Built for the recovery unit
Designed with PACU nurses and anaesthetists for the pace of recovery, where observations are taken every few minutes and patients move on within hours.
Continues the theatre record
Monitor data from theatre and recovery sit on one chart, either side of a dividing line. Theatre drugs, fluids and blocks are shown read-only, with recovery entries added below.
Manual observations at a tap
Record oxygen, respiratory rate, temperature, pain, level of consciousness and blood sugar from any screen, plus dermatome and Bromage scores after an epidural or spinal. Children get a faces pain scale.
Early warning scores
An optional early warning view plots each vital sign on its own chart with the score’s colour bands, and keeps a live adult, paediatric or maternity score, the way ward teams are used to seeing it.
Recovery drugs with barcode scanning
Give the drugs prescribed in theatre, scanning them with the tablet’s camera and recording a second checker when needed. Anaesthetists can add or change recovery and pain prescriptions with their own sign-in, and every change is logged.
Arrival and discharge scores
Score the patient on arrival and before discharge using the modified Aldrete criteria, with an extra day-stay section when the patient is going home. Totals update as each answer is chosen.
Discharge planning and indicators
An on-screen checklist replaces the paper one, covering cannulas, epidural and nerve catheters, and the unit’s own inpatient or day-stay criteria, signed off on screen. Clinical indicators are recorded for quality review.
Made for busy PACU teams
Recovery nurses change over during breaks and shifts, and patients come in quickly from several theatres. SAFERsleep Recovery keeps track of who did what, without extra typing.
- Transferred patients listed by theatre block, ready to open as they arrive
- Nursing team log built from who is signed in, so it’s clear who cared for the patient and when
- Progress notes signed by the logged-in nurse, with key events adding a note automatically
- Patient category (adult, paediatric, obstetric or neurological) sets the right scores and questions
- Obstetric questions appear only for obstetric patients
- Recovery record printout containing only what was recorded in recovery
